  1. Hi Alex, I was wondering if there was anyway I couldget my hands on some models center around like a high school such a school buses, overheads, desks and other things you would find in a school environment. If you could help me out i would much appreciate it, thanks.

  2. Hey Hunter, it’s funny that you were talking about school props, as I’m working on a campaign now which has a high school to it. I’ve gotten some desks done, and I plan on making books, overhead projector, dry erase board, and some other odds and ends. When I get to a certain point I plan on submitting them here, but it’s not going to be for several more months.

  3. Oh yeah, here’s a sneak peek at the chairs. They have several varied skins to them:

  4. That looks awesome Michael. What do you use to model and import the custom models?

  5. yeah! What program do you use to make the in-game
    videos?

  6. Thanks Alex!

I use 3D Studio Max to make the models, Photoshop to texture them, and I use these plug-ins and programs to get them into the engine:

-Wunderboy’s 3DS Max SMD Export Plug-in to export models (and collision) to SMDs for Source
-Nem’s VTFEdit to produce VTFs for mipmaps and alphas (or Nem’s VTF Plugin for Photoshop if I’m lazy)
-Good old Notepad and Notepad +
-Wunderboy’s GUI Studio MDL (BEST COMPILER)

The hardest part imo is writing the QC files in Notepad, one TINY little typo and your model doesn’t compile right (fails to compile or texture doesn’t show up)

I’ve been meaning to make a tutorial for the long compiling process, as it took me several hours to figure this out since all the tutorials out there are QUITE vague and don’t emphasize key parts of compiling process. If I wrote a tutorial with screengrabs would you be willing to host it on WOLD or here?

  7. OMG thx you so much Michael, I’ve been looking for weeks a
way to create custom models for l4d2, i’m working on a school
project that uses the l4d2 game, and we are creating the campaign
with our own school in hammer and other more friendly tools to
create the map, hope you can make that tutorial since i’m not very
used to create models and props just mapping. Thank you
    again!

  8. Camtasia but lately i’ve been experimenting with fraps.
